Do you love to write? Love learning? Have a knack for making stories interesting and fun?! We have an opportunity for a talented writer to join our fast-paced team. Media Matters is seeking a Journalist who will create content for various media, including magazines, websites, daily digital newsletters, video content and social media.
Reporting to the Editor, this role will work collaboratively with the entire team and will learn to think creatively and strategically about content creation, deployment, and analysis.
We’re looking for a creative and curious writer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is self-motivated but also works well with others, regularly contributing useful, innovative ideas that support the online presence of our publications.
Job Description:
- Develop, write, edit and proofread for each publication and their websites
- Generate original stories & contribute to our daily coverage of industry news
- Write industry product spotlights
- Adapt and distribute content across social media platforms
- Write and optimize headlines, meta descriptions, and tags using SEO/AEO best practices
- Interview and write feature stories
- Monitor analytics and adjust content strategy based on performance
- Attend industry events and trade shows (some travel may be required)

Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in (or recently graduated from) a program in Journalism, Communications, or a related field
- Eligible to work under the Canada Summer Jobs program (ages 15–30, a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee protection status, and possess a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN))
- CP knowledge (considered an asset)
- Strong writing skills with the ability to produce clear, engaging content
- Interest in digital media, storytelling, and content creation
- Familiarity with social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook)
- Basic understanding of SEO/AEO and digital publishing is an asset
- Experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, or similar tools is an asset
- Familiarity with WordPress or content management systems is an asset
